Here is
a special tour inside the KDEY radio studio
|
Our Library of tunes and radio shows are stored on the two external hard drives on top of the CPU. The
computer itself is a cobbled up amalgam of Dell pieces parts. It’s mostly a Dell 2400 with a whole lot
of RAM wedged into it. Along with an upgraded Soundblaster audio card and an
upgraded DVD/CD burner. We use
Zararadio automation software to run the station with. The microphone is an EV Cobalt CO5 and the
mic boom is the old desktop boom lamp converted to a mic boom trick – with
one exception. I actually ran the mic
cable through the metallic parts of the lamp, thereby integrating the cable
into the structure of the lamp. It
took some doing! But it gives it a real nice clean look doesn’t it? How do u like the old Pioneer Reel to Reel
tape reel converted to a clock? The
hands are painted in Black Light paint, so they really stand out! Next,
the whole kaboodle goes into a small 6 channel Behringer Eurorack mixer. The output from the mixer runs through an
1/8th inch stereo jack cable up through the ceiling to the first
floor – through to the second floor, where it goes into the EDM LCD FM
transmitter running at 10 milliwatts.
Fantastic
xmitter! Can’t say enough about these babies! I had a Ramsey 25B for three years, loved it. Then read a review from Radio Brandy. Bought the EDM. Ran it one day. Put my Ramsey on Ebay the next day. There’s no comparison. Lastly,
from the EDM a 50 ohm cable runs to my HLLY ‘portable’ ground plane
antenna. Which is installed in the
attic of my two story house, effectively getting it about 23 feet off the
ground. I also live at the very apex
of a hill so who needs a tower? My
house IS the tower. That explains my
terrific range with this wonderful little xmitter. |
